PUČIŠĆA - PRAŽNICA - DONJI HUMAC

Did you know that many of the world's famous buildings were built from Brač stone? Legend says one of them is the White House!

Pučišća has been known from ancient times for its stone-clad culture. The harmony and unity of farmers houses and baroque buildings made from the whitewashed stone of Brač takes the breath of every visitor. The tradition of quarrying continues to this day in the Stonemasonry School, the only one in Croatia and this part of Europe.

After visiting this charming place, we continue on our way to Pražnica, a typical village of inland Brač. Full of island tranquility, it was built on the plateau of scattered shepherd's flats. To this day, it has remained a farmers and livestock settlement, and there are precious churches and archaeological sites. Younger generations are slowly turning to a more modern age, as witnessed by several smaller stone workshops.

After a short tour we will visit one of the workshops where you will be acquainted with the tools and the methods of stone processing. During this time you will be able to taste the homemade wines, liqueurs, cakes and fine cheese known among the islanders.

Numerous stone houses, Roman mausoleums and statues in Donji Humac bear witness to the centuries-old tradition of stone processing. The local church with its beautiful baroque bell tower dominates the landscape of the village. Near the church there are numerous stone sculptures made at the international sculpture symposium held in Donji Humac.

We will explore this interesting place and visit the famous Jakšić Gallery. The story of this artistic family is over 100 years old, and the passion and crafting skills of the stone is transmitted from generation to generation. In the yard of the family home, they have built a modern art gallery in addition to their workshops and ateliers. During the tour you will meet these unusual artists and enjoy their spectacular works and creations.
