Milna - nautical paradise
Milna, a well-known tourist center and a favorite nautical port, is located on the west coast of Brač. The hospitable coves of Milne are a favorite anchorages of almost all boaters sailing the Central Dalmatian waters.
Milna is still considered to be the most beautiful and most protected harbor of Brač. With three well-equipped marinas, Milna will satisfy even the most demanding boaters. It has a long and beautiful coastline, with stone houses below, small masterpieces of folk architecture.
The site is dominated by a Baroque church with a typical Dalmatian bell tower. The interior of the church is rich in valuable paintings by Venetian painters. Milna was once known for its shipbuilding industry, and it was in Milna that a typical Dalmatian boat bracera was built. At the north end of the harbor is a restored stone cottage, once a store of priests from the Blaca Desert and their window to the world.
In addition to the historical sights, natural beauty and irresistible charm of a typical Dalmatian "small town", Milna also captures its guests with healthy Mediterranean cuisine abounding with fresh fish, top quality olive oil and local wines. Visitors can try diving, sailing and fishing at sea.
Those eager to explore will delight the nearby secluded coves, especially the Lučice cove, the port of Bobovišća, nearby village of Ložišća and small island of Mrduja located at the entrance to the port.
Built on the stone and from the stone, Ložišća are situated on a steep slope. The beautiful bell tower of the church of St. John and Pavel dominates and especially stands out surrounded by small stone houses. At the top of the Great Valley, at the place where the river once flowed, there is a bridge from the time of Austrian administration and the locals like to call it the bridge of Fraz Joseph.
Bobovišća is the place where the poet Vladimir Nazor spent his childhood. Near the compound of the Nazor House is its monument. Hidden from curious views, some call it a lookout, a symbolic tower with a concrete three-step and a frieze built by Vladimir Nazor in memory of three sisters. The pillars still show the engraved letters I, O, A today, the initial letters of the names of his sisters Irma, Olga and Amalia, whom he has cared for all his life.
