Pučišća - made of stone

Pučišća is the largest settlement on the north coast of the island. The harmony and unity of heavy houses, baroque buildings and white roofs leave every visitor breathless.
They have been known for their stone-carving culture since ancient times, and many world-class buildings have been created from Brač stone, including the White House.

The picturesque cemetery in Stipanska harbor explored the early Christian church of St. Stitched with a baptismal font. In the late 11th century, the church underwent significant changes when the Benedictines built a monastery with it.
On the coast is the parish church of Sv. Jerome from 16. century and later it was remodeled in Baroque style and expanded to meet the needs of the population. Above the main altar is the relief of St. Jerome, the patron saint of the place.
The famous Povlja Charter is kept in the parish court and is the oldest preserved document written in Croatian language.
Thirteen towers were built through the tumultuous past due to the danger of pirates, and  so the place was nicknamed Towers harbor. Today, four towers arepreserved and  harmoniously integrated into the view of the place.

The large quarry above Pučišća is visible from the sea and for many years has been the main source of income for the town. The tradition of stonemasonry continues to this day in Stonemasonry school, the only one in Croatia and in this part of Europe. Open to visitors, it is especially worthwhile to see a workshop with students' works when visiting with school masters. This school has given many famous sculptors and stone-cutters whose works can be seen in workshops and galleries throughout the island and beyond.
During summer months Pučišća is an ideal place to escape from the hustle and besides crystal sea and various activities many local taverns with top quality specialties were visited.

For the last few years, one of the main manifestations is the International Summer Music School.

The towns of Gornji Humac and Pražnica belong to the municipality of Pučišća. Full of island tranquility, they were built on the plateau of scattered shepherd's flats. To this day, remained a farmers and livestock settlements, and there are precious churches and archaeological sites. Younger generations are slowly turning to a more modern age, as witnessed by several smaller stone workshops.
