OLIVE PICKING

The island of Brač has long been known for its olive growing, which is confirmed by one million olive trees scattered throughout the island fields.

For generations, local people have been cultivating scarce land, and every year it rewards them with quality olive oil. The land is cultivated and prepared throughout the year and the olives are harvested from October. Early in the dawn, farmers' families go to the fields and pick the fruits of their hard work.

The World Championship in olive picking is a unique event that harmoniously connects olives with tourism since 2017. It is organized by Postira Tourist Board and Agricultural Cooperative Postira and has been awarded many times with world awards. The championship takes place in the first half of October and everyone is invited to watch and cheer for their team.

After the summer heat, when days are still warm and the sea pleasant, autumn in Postira has a special charm and creates unforgettable memories. Olive picking, good company, delicious food and interesting activities faithfully evoke true island life.

DAY 1

Arrival to Postira in the afternoon on your own arrangement. Accommodation in hotel Lipa 4* or private apartment 3*. After check-in, we suggest you to spend your free time for walk and explore the place or take a swim on one of many beaches along the coast.

DAY 2

After breakfast it's time to get to know the place. The road leads us to Postira Agricultural Cooperative, the most famous and oldest industry of this kind in Dalmatia. We will visit the olive oil production plant and with expert guidance get acquainted with the original, traditional products of domestic producers and Agricultural Cooperative.

At the entrance to Postira there is a family farm. Thanks to the dedicated work and favorable climate, the Šantić family produces top quality olive oil, which received numerous awards, and there you can find many delicious homemade products. After a tour we will relax in  pleasant surroundings with tasty marmalade, homemade cheese, olives, liqueurs and top quality wine.

With a gentle touch of olive oil and a wealth of Mediterranean plants, the essence of the Adriatic has been transformed into Brač Fine Soap. In a family run production plant, soaps are hand-made and cut, so every bar is unique. Essential oils give each soap specific healing properties and fragrance. During the tour you will have the opportunity to see a part of the long process of soap making. Each soap carries a part of Croatia so it is often taken as a unique souvenir.

Spend the rest of your day in free activities or exploring many island attractions.

DAY 3 - 5

It's time to pick the olives!

In the morning accompanied by a host, we leave for the family field. Roll up your sleeves and try to pick as many olives as possible.
In the shade of centuries-old trees and healthy sea air, you will experience a part of everyday life of Brač farmer and enjoy a delicious homemade brunch and a glass of good wine.

On harvest days, use the afternoon hours to rest and relax.

At the end, the effort will be rewarded with a bottle of quality olive oil.

DAY 6

This morning is reserved for exploring Škrip, the oldest settlement of Brač that  best describes all the history and millennial life of the island.Prehistorical ramparts, numerous archaeological finds, sarcophagi and reliefs and medieval graves make it one of the most significant archaelogical sites in Croatia.

The Museum of Olive oil presents the history of olive growing on the island as well as the entire traditional olive oil production process, all the traditional tools used for transport, production and storage of olive oil. After an interesting and instructive presentation you will be able to shrug your sleeves and try to get few drops of this green gold. There is also a taster in the museum and after hard work we will enjoy island delicacies such as olive pate, jams, cheese, domestic olive oil and wine.
Museum of island Brač is housed in Radojkovic Tower from the 16th century and shows a cross section of island's history and cultural heritage. In the lower part of the museum is a Roman mausoleum, famous for the legend that the wife and daughter of Emperor Diocletian were buried here.

After sightseeing of Škrip, we arrive in eco-ethno village Dol located in the deep valley in the island's interior. At the entrance to the village there are caves made of grainy stone hrapoćuša and the autochthonous cake was named after it. This quient and pieceful place is full of preserved traditional stone houses and ideal for anyone who likes to explore.

Return to Postira is scheduled walking after lunch at a well-known local tavern.
